Most people would snicker at that notion. But it is true ! When the seven sons of Sceva tried to cast out demons in the name of Jesus they had disastrous results. They had witnessed Paul doing mighty miracles in the name of Jesus. They wanted that same power for selfish reasons. They attempted to cast out a demon. These jewish exorcists invoked the name of the Lord Jesus who Paul preaches. The evil spirit said Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you ? And the man in whom the demon resided overpowered them, beat them and chased out of the house bloody and naked. Acts 19:16 The mighty name of Jesus is not to be held in low regard. Wherever Jesus went the demons recognized. Him. They pleaded with Him not to throw them into the pit. We are admonished to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus: the name above all names.
