So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36. In March of 1983 my parents came to visit me in the Federal Correctional Institution La Tuna in Anthony, Texas. My father was extremely distraught and my mother was extremely observant: typical Italian father Jewish mother combination. I was beginning a thirteen year sentence for flying marijuana into the United States. You are definitely known by the company you keep. The WWII fighter pilot who showed me the ropes had been released from La Tuna six years earlier. While at our home base, a burly DEA agent approached the Old Man and said I heard you were out. I just wanted to stop by and say hello. My mentor introduced me to the fed as his protege. I was shocked. No doubt I was in. The explanation was if you want to make the money you have to share the heat. And that I did until I finally was busted. While my Dad was in a frenzy trying to figure what he did wrong raising me(nothing) my Mom was puzzled by my calm and peaceful demeanor. She questioned me about it. I guess she expected to find me freaking out in the visiting room. I explained the pressure was off. I was no longer in the battle. Then the Holy Spirit spoke through me. Life in prison with Jesus was better than life on the street without Him. I had been a federal fugitive for over two years. I gave my life to the Lord. I asked Him to be Lord of my life. I was baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit, and I became part of the body of Christ. I turned myself in to the US Marshalls. They told me they had written me off and never would have caught me. I told them that God had caught me ! My Mom and Dad eventually accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. So if the Son sets you free you will be free indeed. John8:36
